August 27, 1864: Yosemite Valley
September 6, 2014
Took our breakfast at the hospitable cabin of Ostrander and started. Rode about 17 miles. Trail as usual through forests of fir and p. contorta in the wet places. At last to Inspiration Point, a name not at all pedantic. View by far the finest of all about the valley. Day very clear and all spread about–the grand Cathedral, the grander Tutucanula above the emerald bottom. Beyond the rugged peaks and barren slopes toward Mono. Then descend and the rather tedious ride up the valley to Olmsted’s camp just opposite the Fall. Pleasant evening with grand light on the Half Dome.
