Camp 199

Mr. and Mrs. Ashburner wished to start and I went with them to the Wagon Road ten miles [away] down tremendous hills leading her horse and riding back of his. Fine trail, grand views and immense forests. At the road met King, who had rode up in a wagon and had my letters, a pile of them. Also a watermelon, which proved delicious. I have a surfeit of letters, over thirty, in these two days. The boys returned from Mariposa and we took Hoffmann to the house and put him in a bed.
