June 29, 1864: Clover Creek Headwaters
In camp most of the day. King and Gardiner went to take a sketch of the higher Sierra. I went on ridge to sketch a parapet of granite by the head of the rocky amphitheater with the fine view.
Our horses strolled off and went back to the last camp. Hoffman and Gardiner went after them. Evening very mild. A change has taken place in the weather. It is warmer and the mosquitoes are out. Two bears and several deer seen by the party.
