June 27, 1864: Clover Creek Headwaters
We went on only about three miles and camped in a canyon where there was a little grass. We explored the amphitheater [today], but in the afternoon it began to rain. All the evening it rained. We turned into our damp blankets and prepared for a miserable night’s sleep, but it stopped raining about nine o’clock and then cleared up, although the trees dripped water all night, and it was cold—the thermometer sank to 25°.
