Camp 108

[Today], we went on to Pence’s Ranch, about twelve miles north of Oroville. First, we went down the plain, crossed the Butte Creek, turbid with miners’ dirt, and, after about ten miles, struck east.

Pence’s Ranch lies just back into the first tier of foothills, and we found it on some accounts the most interesting place to the geologist in the state, owing to the proximity of several different geological formations.
