June 5, 1862: Corral Hollow
[Today] we rode up the canyon and again visited the mines and prospectings, all now deserted for a time. My previous opinion of the worthlessness of the mines was confirmed strongly. Over $100,000 has been spent in that desolate place—and more will probably be sunk there!
We have been sleeping in the open air since this month began, and it seems like old times again.
